Letter from the Vendor Event Staff

We are Tim and Patti Leitzel, the proprietors of Brickhouse Gift Shop located in Millersburg, Pennsylvania. We are responsible for the organization and management of the Artisans and Crafters that are participating in the 2018 Susquehanna Folk Festival.

For those of you who don’t know us or our shop, we will give you a little background to help you understand why we are working with the Susquehanna Folk Music Society to bring you this event. Being crafters ourselves, we’ve been involved with Artisans and Crafters in one way or another for most of our lives. Our shop celebrated 10 years of being in business in December 2017. In 2010, we were approached by the Co-Owners of Armstrong Valley Winery (AVW), who were planning their Grand Opening. They asked if we could help with bringing in some crafters to the event. That request led to us organizing and managing three 2-Day festivals for AVW each year. In 2014, we began offering our services to other clients and venues, primarily Wineries. Some of the venues we have worked at are Spring Gate Vineyard, Olivero’s Vineyard, and State Street Plaza. We continue to work with Olivero’s Vineyard and recently started organizing and managing the Gratz Arts and Crafts Festival.

As you may have already seen, in addition to Artisans and Crafters, the Susquehanna Folk Festival offers 2 full days packed with all kinds of things for guests of all ages to experience, including Music, Dancing, Storytelling, Jamming, Kids Activities, and Food. The Susquehanna Folk Festival is really a showcase of performers and creators who are providing the Festival guest an educational, interactive and entertaining experience.

Our vision for the Artisan and Crafter area of the Festival venue is to offer the guests a truly special shopping experience – one that can be – as mentioned above – educational, interactive, and entertaining.

We are passionate about mentoring, supporting, and promoting local and regional artisans and crafters who make the items they sell. We are seeking Artisans and Crafters who are excited about their work and enjoy sharing it with others. We are seeking Artisans and Crafters who, if practical, will actually make some of their items and demonstrate their work during the Festival. We are seeking Artisans and Crafters who love to explain how they create their unique items to the curious shopper. While some guests may prefer to simply shop, some guests may want to immerse themselves in the whole Festival experience and see unique items being created while they shop.

This will be a ”Juried” event and if we have not worked with you in the past, we will need to see pictures of your work. We will be inspecting the quality of materials, workmanship and the completed item. We will also need to see pictures of your booth display. We are looking for attractive, professional, and inviting displays. We will need to know that you have a current, valid PA State Sales Tax ID. We prefer that you have an online presence such as a Facebook page or a Website.

In keeping with the creative aspect of the Folk Festival, we are not accepting any Vendors whose items or products are sold based on Direct Sales, Reselling, Multi-Level Marketing or other similar business ventures.

As part of our service to the Artisans and Crafters during the Festival, we will be there to greet you upon arrival and assist you with unloading and setup, and teardown and loading for departure. We will also be available to you throughout the Festival to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

The Vendor spaces are 10X10 and will be located on a flat, paved surface. Canopy staking will not be permitted and weights will be required. Each 10X10 vendor space will cost $65. The Folk Festival is a 2 Day “Rain or Shine” event, so you will need to plan accordingly. The vendor hours for Saturday, July 28, are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday, July 29 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

As the inaugural event, the 2018 Susquehanna Folk Festival is the first of what we are hoping will quickly become known locally, regionally, and perhaps even nationally, as one of the best Folk Festivals for people to attend and experience year after year. Based on the Festival schedule, we believe that this event is already showing the potential to draw large crowds throughout the two days. For you as an Artisan or Crafter, we feel that this will be an excellent event and venue where you will have maximum opportunity for sales to both current and new customers.

If you are interested in participating as an Artisan or Crafter in the 2018 Susquehanna Folk Festival, please send an email to patim1@comcast.net and include a description and pictures of the item you make, and links to any online presence you have.
