Volunteering at the Susquehanna Folk Festival

Working in all phases of the Susquehanna Folk Festival, volunteers help create a fun, enjoyable, and safe weekend for all.  Volunteers maintain the festival site, welcome visitors, sell tickets and merchandise, transport performers, supervise children’s crafts, provide security, manage stages, take photos, record videos, and more.  As a volunteer, you become a valuable member of the Susquehanna Folk Festival family and hundreds of visitors will benefit from your service!

Below are some FAQs that you may have about volunteering.

How does volunteering work?

You may volunteer for one or two days. Shifts will be 4 ½ hours long. In scheduling, priority is given to those who can volunteer for two days. You will receive a free admission for the day of your volunteer shift and are welcome to enjoy the festival for the entire day of your shift. Come early, stay late!

What volunteer job will I be doing at the festival?

We will make every effort to assign you a volunteer job based on the preferences that you specified on your Volunteer Application. Carefully review the Volunteer Opportunities tab and indicate on the Volunteer Application which jobs are your first second and third choice. Please be flexible! For scheduling reasons we may not be able to give you a preferred job.

If you are accepted as a volunteer, you will receive an e-mail letting you know the details of your assignment.

Do I need to make a volunteer deposit?

Every festival needs a strong corps of committed volunteers, and to ensure that volunteers are prepared to make a commitment, we’ve noticed that many festivals require a volunteer deposit. In our inaugural year we’ve decided not to require prospective volunteers to make a deposit, but instead trust that they are prepared to take on the volunteer task that they have agreed to. We’re counting on you!

What if I am accepted as a volunteer and need to cancel?

If you need to cancel after having been accepted as volunteer, please Sue Landau by e-mail at slrnc@comcast.net by July 15th if possible.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

►18 years of age or older

►Must not be responsible for the care of children during your shift



►Courteous and polite

►Application and clearances (Family Tent Crew only) on file

Will volunteering require much physical activity?

Most tasks require a degree of physical activity. Whether it’s standing, walking, lifting or other types of exertion, be prepared for some motion. Read the Volunteer Opportunities carefully and select the ones that you feel you are most able to do.

What if I want to be scheduled with a friend or family member?

What should I bring with me?

Volunteers may work indoors or outdoors. Bring a water bottle, sun block, insect repellent, rainwear, comfortable shoes, and flashlights. Please don’t bring a child that you are responsible for or pets, tobacco products, or alcohol.
